1. What ad did you find most entertaining, and why?
I found the ad by Hyundai called "The Chase" to be the most entertaining because the girl screaming catches your attention and the action throughout the ad keeps you interested. Also thought it was funny when the bears are talking about why they were chasing the people. Not to mention the background music was intense and kept the viewer focused on the ad.
2. What commercial did you find the most dull/boring, and why?
I thought the SoFi commercial was the most dull because there wasn't any excitement, and the monotoned voice bored me. It didn't hold my attention well, and it was mostly talking about how random people are great or not. Nothing interested me and caught my attention like a flash of color.
3. What about your favorite ad made it most effective?
The ad first starts off with the girl screaming so that helps grab the attention. The quick burst and intense music as they are running keeps you interested as well. Also it was effective because people will remember the silly little bit where the bears are talking about the people they just chased.
4. What about your least favorite ad made it ineffective?
It's color scheme was a neutral and a dull blue, so nothing stood out. There wasn't any kind of excitement, and had only one person talking. Also the background music was boring as well.
5. Did either of your commercials feature any famous people? Do you think that helped? Why or why not.
The commercial for Hyundai didn't feature any famous people, but I don't think it would have made a difference. The ad caught your attention by action rather than through famous people. Also the commercial for the SoFi didn't have any celebrities in their ad either. It didn't help the SoFi commercial to not have a celebrities in it. If the SoFi ad had a celebrity in it then it could have drawn more attention, and kept me interested in the ad.
6. What design elements or principles were used in each commercial? Provide at least two and explain. What affect did they have on the successfulness of the ads?
Hyundai Commercial: The contrast and color scheme were used in the commercial. The color scheme was dark earthy colors because it was set in a forest. This also plays a role in contrast because the color of the car was a bright blue, which makes it stand out. Due to it standing out, it brings attention to the car which is the point of the ad. Both the color scheme, and contrast working together made the ad successful.
SoFi Commercial: On design element/principle used was color scheme. The neutral color scheme dulled the ad and made it less interesting. Also the mass of the video helped the ad a bit. The ad was a full screen video with someone talking in the background but not to fast. This helped the audience watch everything going on without having to read any text.
